What is Fourier Transform Spectrosopy?
Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is an analytical technique
FTIR is the process by which a sample is placed into a KBrpellet or mineral oil mull and subjected to infrared radation (waves of light from the IR part of the light spectrum). The IR light is then partiallyabsorbed/transmitted by the bonding of the molecules within the sample by their streching & bending. This absorption is then represented graphically with a spectrum from 450 – 4000nm. This is a fingerprint of the substance (best results are obtained with pure samples).
